Arriving in Pienza, we discover that they have transformed this little community into a fashionable tourist destination, the streets lined with many shops.It is famous for its Pecorino cheese made from sheep milk, and the smell permeated throughout the narrow streets as we explored. They also are famous for their Pici (pronounced: peachy) pasta, found only here, and we thoroughly enjoyed it for lunch.
Our tour leader then said he found that in the small town of San Querico d'Orcia, a yearly pageant recreating the fight in 1155 AD, between the Holy Roman Empire and Emperor Fredrick of Germany. Although the actors obviously spoke in Italian, the action was delightful to watch. Exhausted after another long day, we returned to our hotel. Tomorrow is another early day as we drive to Siena
