Looking for alternative travel plans due to the cancellation of our cruise from Shanghai to Hong Kong, on the suggestion of our daughter, Lisa, we decided to plan a trip that would give us some R & R in a resort and a few days in the area we thought most interesting from the cruise destinations we were going to miss.
Our first destination would be Phuket, Thailand. Phuket is the biggest island in Thailand, located in the Andaman Sea of southern Thailand. The island is mostly mountainous with a mountain range in the west of the island from the north to the south. Departing Shanghai at 1030PM on a 5 hour flight, we arrived in the early hours of the morning and found no one there to transport us to the hotel, so found a taxi and hoped that we were not being ‘taken’ for a ride. The downer of this trip is that I have come down with a bronchial infection and not only is the consistent coughing driving us crazy, but it has also sapped my strength. Hopefully with some prescribed antibiotics the worst is over. Although due to my ‘creative juices’ being pushed to the background, I hope to get some sense of the beauty of this magic paradise.
The weather, although hot and humid, is blessed with cool ocean breezes so the end result being very comfortable and the ever visible staff brighten the day with smiles and salutations. It is a ‘feel good’ paradise we probably would never have visited except for our misfortune of the cancelled cruise.
Every day, exiting our room, it as if we are entering a botanical garden. The variety of flowers, the colors leading us on to yet another, continues to make us appreciate what a beautiful world we living in.
